USL League Two (USL2)
For college soccer players in the U.S., the season doesn’t end when the NCAA calendar does.Summer soccer is the competitive season outside of the NCAA schedule, where players continue playing, developing, and being evaluated while school is out.
What Is USL League Two?
USL League Two (USL2) is one of the strongest and most scouted summer leagues in the United States. It sits within the U.S. soccer pyramid as an elite amateur competition, allowing college players to compete at a high level while maintaining NCAA eligibility. The league is heavily attended by professional scouts and coaches from MLS, USL Championship, USL League One, and international clubs.
League Structure
- Nearly 150 teams nationwide
4 conferences: Eastern, Southern, Central, Western - New clubs joining every year
- Competitive schedules designed around college athletes
Many USL2 clubs provide housing support for non-local players, making it accessible for athletes coming from different states or countries.
This nationwide footprint gives players the opportunity to compete in different regions, styles, and environments — all while staying active during the summer months.
Why USL2 Matters
-
Development
Players face high-level competition week after week, accelerating technical, tactical, and physical growth.
-
Visibility
Summer leagues are heavily scouted, especially by professional clubs looking for college talent.
-
Momentum
Players return to their college programs sharper, fitter, and more confident going into the fall season.
-
Experience
Beyond football, summer soccer exposes players to new environments, teammates, and responsibilities — often living away from campus with a full focus on the game.
USL2 as a Professional Pathway
While not every USL2 player turns professional, the league has become a proven pathway for athletes ready to test themselves at the next level.
Many current professional players used USL2 to:
- Gain exposure
- Adjust to semi-professional demands
- Earn trials, contracts, or further opportunities
Numbers don't lie: 69 former USL2 players were selected in the MLS Super Draft 2026.
